Farmers' Market Food Scrap Drop-Off Program

Episode 3

Welcome to the second episode of the Sustain Dane Podcast, your gateway to all things sustainability and positive change in Dane County and Madison, Wisconsin! Today we are talking all things Food Scraps Program! No matter your level of familiarity with this program, this episode will be sure to teach you what it's all about and how you can do your part to keep it going.

We chat with an array of folks who are helping bring this program to life everyday. We kick the episode off by chatting with Bryan Johnson, the Recycling Coordinator and Public Information Officer for the City of Madison Streets Division.

Then we get down to the drop off sites themselves to talk to the many market goers who bring their scraps to the market each week. We head to the Eastside Farmers' Market first where we had the chance to talk with our Compost Interns and the Market Manager there. Then we head over to the Southside Farmers' Market where we had the chance to chat with Robert Pierce, the Founder & Executive Director of Neighborhood Food Solutions who takes on the task of turning our scraps into soil.

Before we close out the episode we also got to hear from Sujata Gautam who helps run the Trash Lab! A unique experience that helps folks of all ages learn about the things we throw away and allows us to rethink our relationship with waste.
